Michael Jordan unveiled the opening of his third health clinic, The Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. The new facility was funded by a $10 million donation from the basketball legend in partnership with Novant Health. It brings much-needed comprehensive primary care services to individuals, especially those who are uninsured or underinsured.

“Everyone is worthy of access to quality healthcare, no matter where you live or if you have insurance. I’m truly inspired by the many powerful stories of people who are now thriving thanks to the support of our Charlotte medical clinics. I am confident Novant Health’s new clinic will positively impact individuals and families throughout Wilmington. I’m profoundly grateful to help make this day happen for my hometown,” said Michael Jordan in a written statement.

The 7,800-square-foot facility has 12 patient rooms and will offer services ranging from health screenings, and preventative care to behavioral health support. The clinic will be supported by a primary care team and a community health worker to help assist patients with community resources. It is strategically situated across from the Houston Moore neighborhood, an underserved area, and will bring life-changing healthcare to those in need. Novant Health’s new Community Care Cruiser will also provide services to individuals across the region.

The clinic reflects Jordan’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare to vulnerable communities. He previously opened two clinics in Charlotte in 2019 and 2020 with a donation of $7 million for each facility. Last year, the Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medicine Clinics in Charlotte provided more than 9,000 patient visits and are delivering profound benefits to the community. Site work for Wilmington’s second Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic is already underway.

“Each Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic has been thoughtfully planned for the best location within the community. Thanks to our care team’s commitment to lifelong wellness, our third Michael Jordan clinic is already delivering on our vision to close health equity gaps by transforming healthcare, one patient at a time,” said Ernie Bovio, president of the Novant Health Coastal Region and Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Born at Cumberland Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, Jordan and his family relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina when he was five. He started his ascent to stardom at the University of North Carolina and supporting his hometown has always been his top priority. Jordan is a co-owner of the Charlotte Hornets and was the first former NBA player and Black majority owner of an NBA team.
